All Independent Analysis projects are directed by IA's principal analyst, Steve McGonegal. Mr. McGonegal has an extensive track record of preparing and presenting effective analyses in product liability and antitrust litigation, environmental and safety regulatory proceedings, and internal corporate risk assessment and management initiatives. Independent Analysis is also an ideal contractor for Internet and library research projects, database development and construction, and survey development and analysis.
- Consulting engagements have included economic damages analysis and preparation of expert reports; regulatory impact analysis; statistical assessment of occupational risks; research and analysis of company, industry, and economy-wide statistics and trends in the electricity, telecommunications, computer, and Internet sectors; economic and statistical analysis of Internet-related policy issues; and survey development, data processing, analysis and report writing/editing for medical specialty proficiency testing programs.
- Served on a contract basis as senior research associate for Heiden Associates, Inc., focusing on product safety, risk, and liability issues; also prepared analysis and testimony for economic damages assessments; previously employed by Heiden Associates from 1990-1998.
- Previous litigation and research contract work with Kleinfield, Kaplan, & Becker (FDA law), Resources for the Future, and the Small Business Administration.
- Upper-level undergraduate teaching experience as an adjunct instructor at the University of Maryland. Courses taught included intermediate microeconomics, intermediate macroeconomics, and money & banking.
- PhD Candidate in Economics, University of Maryland, College Park (advanced to candidacy in 1986).
Specialized courses and research in public finance, environmental and natural resource economics, urban and labor economics, and econometrics.
- BA, Political Science, Duke University, magna cum laude (1980). Graduate-level coursework in applied microeconomics, statistics, public sector management, Congressional policy-making, and international relations.
- Graduated from Winston Churchill High School in Potomac, Maryland, (1976). Directed and participated in a full-year student-led independent study project in water quality monitoring.
